The biggest grip I hear from new backpackers (or those who don't hit the trails) is all issues surrounding bathroom issues on the trail. Little of this is related to the gross factor, sure it's not pleasant but we all poop, so who cares. I believe the problem stems from a lack of knowledge and seasoned backpackers don't take time to mentor noobs well in this topic.
